What happens in my couples therapy session?
At Lady Bird Relationship Center, we understand navigating your most important relationships can be a deeply emotional experience. In our work, you will explore ways to actively listen to each other without judgement and find new avenues to communicate with your spouse or partner that you can feel good about.
Marriage and intimate relationships are filled with beautiful intricacies and rich layers we uncover together in sessions. Hearing your story, building trust and rapport, and holding a safe space for you and your partner to have the courage to be vulnerable is intentional at Ladybird Relationship Center.
We design our specialized couples and marriage therapy sessions to guide you through your relationship challenges including premarital counseling, relationship repair following an affair, rebuilding trust, starting a family, or deciding what the next chapter of your journey will be together and individually.
Like a diamond, your relationship has brilliance and fire. Like a diamond, your relationship catches light differently as we explore communication patterns, special circumstances, and our interaction patterns with one another. Through self-reflection and tailored guidance, we empower you to address and learn to communicate your own underlying needs that get lost in the daily battlegrounds of life. Feeling heard, seen, and understood by your partner is one of the greatest gifts you can give to one another.
Infertility Support: Our offerings include support for couples facing challenges related to infertility. We provide support, coping strategies, and a compassionate and safe place to process the emotional twists and turns of the fertility journey.
Ladybird Relationship Center offers Discernment Counseling
Certified in Discernment Counseling, Kandace Williamson is one of the few certified therapists in the state of Texas specializing in working with couples on the verge of a “hot divorce” or breakup using this method. Whether you are the leaning in partner or you are leaning out, Discernment Counseling can help you find answers.
Here’s what you can expect in Discernment Counseling sessions.
Discernment Counseling follows an evidence-based structure backed up by research and lasts from one to five sessions. The first step is reaching out to Kandace for a 20 minute free phone screening with each partner to see if you and your partner are candidates for Discernment Counseling. If you are feeling confusion and are conflicted regarding the direction to take next in your marriage or relationship, you may be a candidate.
The goal of Discernment Counseling is to gain clarity and confidence in a direction moving forward in the relationship while gaining a deeper understanding to each person’s contributions to the problems in the relationship or marriage.
Discernment Counseling is not traditional marriage therapy. We are not trying to “fix” the marriage during DC or offer tools or interventions to improve things. Instead, we are deeply exploring whether change is possible based on a deeper understanding of our own contributions to the problems. Then you can move forward towards on of the three paths with more confidence and clarity.
There are three paths in Discernment Counseling and each session ends with the question, “would you like to continue with Discernment Counseling for another session or have you chosen a path for the direction of your relationship?” Client autonomy is paramount in all of our sessions, and it is your choice rather to continue to gain a deeper understanding and a direction or end Discernment Counseling if you feel you have reached a decision with clarity and confidence. What happens in my individual therapy sessions?
Everyone is unique and brings their own complex set of issues, feelings, and narrative into individual sessions. In our first session, we get to know you and learn about your personal and relationship history. We actively listen to you to gain a deeper understanding of your approach towards life and relationships. We may explore your attachment style and discover what helps you feel protected and safe. Let us help you write the next chapter in your life , inviting you to imagine,“what would I like to be happening in my life instead of what is happening today?”. The solutions are there. Let’s find them!
At Ladybird Relationship Center, we guide you in cultivating a mindful approach to healing, emphasizing the significance of self-care, mindfulness, and individual goals. You may feel ready to “unlearn” relationship patterns that no longer serve you. When painful past experiences and trauma continues to impact your life today, you may feel drained, guilty, overwhelmed, depressed, sad, fearful, or anxious.
What if I need to work on my boundaries in my relationships?
People pleasing and inconsistent (or nonexistent) boundaries can deplete your personal resources and often leads to isolation, avoidance, displaced guilt, extreme distress, or anxious behaviors. On your deathbed, will someone else’s life flash before you because you are ruminating on their situation or afflictions? Maybe you are letting them take over in order to “keep the peace” while you remain uncomfortable and feeling disrespected. Ladybird Relationship Center can help you recalibrate and find your true self. Setting boundaries is not selfish, it is sacred. Saying “no” to what harms you, is saying “yes” to yourself. You are brave and worthy of love, care, and support while you learn new ways to protect yourself and find your voice.
Would EMDR or specialized therapy sessions to treat trauma help me?
Specialized EMDR (eye movement desensitization and Reprocessing) sessions and individualized trauma work is a service we provide at Ladybird Relationship Center. Kandace Williamson is EMDR trained and competent in providing event-driven trauma treatments and more complex trauma histories. If you are challenged with a PTSD diagnosis, if you are a first responder looking for relief, or if you have suffered relationship traumas such as treating or family of origin wounds, EMDR or trauma treatment sessions can offer solace and hope with evidence-based treatment.
